585915
585915 is a local community project designed for residents of Rochester, NY and Monroe County, NY. The name reflects both our geography and our technology: (585) for the local area code, and (915) for the 915 MHz LoRa and mesh radio spectrum.
The goal of 585915 is simple: help neighbors find one another, communicate directly, and build resilient local connections that do not depend on centralized platforms, surveillance-driven networks, or fragile infrastructure.
In today’s political and social climate, strong local communities matter more than ever. Mutual aid, rapid communication, and trusted relationships are key to keeping people safe and informed. 585915 exists to support those connections — quietly, locally, and openly.
This project focuses on decentralized communication: mesh radio, self-hosted platforms, and federated networks that allow people to communicate securely and independently, without unnecessary oversight from governments or large communications corporations.
585915 Communities
The following communities are operated and moderated as part of the 585915 project.
Related External Communities
These are independent community-run servers and networks that align with similar goals. 585915 does not operate or moderate these spaces.
About the Project
585915 is a project of MakeArmy, a locally operated initiative that hosts a wide range of federated and self-hosted services on hardware physically located in the Rochester area.
These services exist to support free, open, and privacy-respecting communication for local residents and community groups.
Support the Project
All infrastructure for 585915 and MakeArmy is currently funded by my very small local business. If you find value in these services, any support helps keep them running and growing.
